A small amount of carbon dioxide is used in the abdominal cavity to help isolate the uterus from the other organs. A manipulating probe is used to bring the uterus into the proper position for insemination. Once the uterus is in the correct position, the probe is removed and replace by the inseminating gun containing the semen.
